Plant-parasitic nematodes are microscopic, soilborne pathogens, and several genera can impact cucurbits. Of these, root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) are frequently the most prevalent and impactful. This talk will present key biological concepts, provide instruction on soil sampling and diagnosing damage, and discuss integrated management tactics for root-knot nematodes. Additionally, field trial data evaluating nematicide use in cucurbits will be presented. A special discussion will be provided of Meloidogyne enterolobii (guava root-knot nematode).
