Summary

​In the second of two presentations on economics and marketing at the 2022 Georgia Cotton Commission Annual Meeting, Amanda Smith, University of Georgia (UGA) Extension Economist, describes the economic environment at the beginning of 2022 and then describes the outlook for agricultural inputs, including fuel, cash rents, fertilizer, seed, and more. She also introduces the row crop comparison tool available from UGA and offers conclusions about opportunities for earning a profit in 2022. Note that this presentation reflects economic conditions in late January 2022. (See the first presentation by Yangxuan Liu, University of Georgia Economist.) 

About the Presenter

Amanda Smith Amanda Smith is an Extension economist in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at the University of Georgia, Tifton. Her Extension interests include production economics of conservation (cotton, peanuts, corn, and other major grains in Georgia), risk management education (planting decision aids, enterprise budgets, producers’ utilization of conservation programs), production economics of conservation (tillage, precision agriculture, irrigation systems), and conservation policy analysis and education (impacts on producers). Smith holds BS degrees in animal science and agricultural business and an MS degree in agricultural and resource economics from Colorado State University.​
