Summary

​The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) is the lead state agency responsible for inspecting and investigating pesticide use in Texas. The TDA inspects pesticide dealers, applicators, retail stores, and sites where pesticides are stored and/or applied. This presentation provides an overall view of licensing, continuing education, complaints, pesticide waste disposal events, and other issues that the TDA deals with on an annual basis. For further information about the TDA, please visit the agency’s website at TexasAgriculture.gov.

About the Presenter

Perry Cervantes ​Perry Cervantes has been with the Texas Department of Agriculture for 25 years. He began his career as a regulatory inspector, transferred to become a pesticide inspector, and moved into the pesticide product registration program as a specialist. When the opportunity arose to work more with applicators, he became a certification and training specialist. Cervantes was promoted to coordinator for certification and training and then 2 years ago became director for environmental and biosecurity programs. He has a bachelor of science in agriculture–animal science from Southwest Texas State University.
