​​Chemical Control of Foliar Plant Diseases in Potato: Application of Fungicides

Summary

​This presentation will help consultants, growers, and other practitioners in areas in which potatoes are produced. Information will be presented detailing where fungicides can be found in the potato canopy following applications by different methods, how much of the material applied remains by canopy level nearly a week later, and what results are produced from repeated applications related to fungicide amount through time. Information is also provided on how fungicide amounts can be increased by some application methods, what effects result from increasing or decreasing water amounts used during application fungicide deposition, and why timing of application is important to get the best disease control possible.

About the Presenter

Philip B. HammPhilip B. Hamm has been with Oregon State University for the past 37 years, specifically involved with the identification and management of potato diseases for 22 years. Most of his research effort has been spent working on the following potato diseases/problems/aspects: late blight, Rhizoctonia, silver scurf, corky ringspot, soil fumigation, Verticillium wilt, and Potato virus A and Potato virus Y. In his Extension role, he has presented information to over 100,000 participants in numerous states and countries. Hamm earned a BS in biology from Western Oregon University in 1975 and an MS in plant pathology at Oregon State University in 1981.​
